DescriptionThere is perhaps no Groo scene more quintessential that Groo jumping into a fray. This was to complete my trio of Groo acquisitions straight from Aragones Cartoons FB page, aka Sergio's capable daughter Christen: first was the entire Groo crew, and second was Groo sinking a ship. So I just needed a Groo fray.This is an 8.5"x11" piece and normally Sergio doesn't draw as many details in a paper this size. Sergio has been saying recently that over the years, he just keeps on drawing in a more detailed fashion and I have to agree. Pieces of this size in earlier years were not this detailed. And even his more recent Groo comics have much more grand double page spreads. Maybe that's why his longtime colorist Tom Luth was forced to retire. For this drawing, check out the helmets of the soldiers - all having different tips. Check out the pattern in the shields - intricate details. But my favorite part here is an unobstructed full body view of Groo springing to action, with his able canine companion Rufferto also running in. Just like with my other unpublished pieces, I digitally colored it. Sergio left too many open ended spaces so I just added borders and margins to frame the action and give it the look and feel of a convention print. Attached in the additional images section is my digitally colored version, and also a picture of Sergio holding the original art. **** UPDATE 1/5/2024 **** I just added an updated imaginary cover for this piece: slightly changing the colors, adding color holds (as this is what the new colorist Carrie Strachan does), and using the latest Dark Horse Groo logo. I'm gonna fight 'em all
A seven nation army couldn't hold Groo back
He’s gonna pull it off
Aragones drawing him jumping MAD
And I'm talking on Facebook at night
Because there is art to get
Back and forth through my mind
Behind a three piece set
And the message coming to my eyes
Says, "All Sergio"
I’m gonna swear upon it
Every helmet one's got a story to tell
Everyone knows the comic
From the King of England to Rufferto’s hell
And if I catch him jumping in the fray
He’s gonna serve you hell too
And that ain't what you want to hear
But that's what makes Groo
