Description

I was lucky enough to meet Kevin O’Neill when he was at the UK Comic Art Convention back in 1993, and he was kind enough to draw this amusing piece featuring the creators-owned property he was most famous for at the time. On the occasions when it is reported on the news that a ruthless military dictatorship has assumed control of a country and imposed martial law (which is no laughing matter) I always think of this comic character and it brings a smile to my face, even though it is no laughing matter, but that connection is probably what made Pat Mills and Kevin O’Neill decide on his name. I think they call it black humour.

I was sorry to yesterday learn that Kevin O’Neill had passed away recently. His work will continue to be enjoyed by comics fans all around the world. My condolences to any of his family and friends who are reading this.

Love the photos you kept as it wasn't as easy as today. The O'Neill drawing demonstrates the design of the head that is made of sharp cuts and angles that is just part of the danger with his giant gun and shells popping. Very bold 90's style of a character.
