In a third-rate castle in Dux (Bavaria) an elderly libertine tries to maintain his position as a librarian by telling a lord of his age, licentious stories to awaken his humanity. He himself is invigorated by the story of his love escapades. Casanova, once the pride and scandal of the whole of Europe, has fallen very low and realizes it. Nobody believes her stories and for this reason, when a prosperous guest arrives at the Castle, she does everything to earn her affection for her, even if the guest hates that old farting and syphilitic. Hunt Emerson presents amusing extracts from the life of the great libertine, contrasting the high-sounding prose of his memoirs with the visual reality of the situation. The work is pervaded by a melancholy tone contrasted and tempered, however, continuously by brilliant visual gags.
