DescriptionHere’s one that I actually received last year but never got around to adding here. One collecting goal when I started collecting art and commissions was to get a pin up of the replacement Superman characters that arrived on the scene after Superman’s death from the artists working on those series at that time. I realized I had the other three listed here, but not this amazing Superboy by Tom Grummett. For this one, I wanted to have a piece that represented the youthful energy that Superboy (don’t call him that) brought to these stories. Sure he was representative of a 90’s punk teen, but as a 14 year old 90’s teen when he debuted, it worked for me! In addition to the youthful energy, he also provided some levity to an event that until that point had been pretty serious, dealing with death and loss. To represent this, I asked Tom to include the memorial statue of Superman while also putting Superboy in the classic “Superman #1” pose holding a pizza and slurpee (sorry…Gulpee! Love it!). Homages the past while also celebrate the debut of a 90’a breakout star! So yeah, all of those elements combined created this amazing homage to both Superman’s long legacy, his sacrifice during Death & the lighthearted nature of Superboy that Tom excels at conveying! I actually received this piece first, but having it also helped influence my decision to ask for Eradicator with the Statue commission from Butch Guice. Love having the contrasting tone of lighthearted Superboy & no nonsense Eradicator Superman. Social/Sharing |

You may have had too good of a year Carl.
Thanks! Technically I got it last year...but for sure, I've had both a better 2021 & 2022 than I had any business having!

Grummett's mastery of the subject and the figurework is top tier Superman family. The trees and brick trails of the park shows the meticulous effort he put into this.

This certainly puts the Fun in Funtastic! As a big Wizard of Oz fan, I would be so tempted to send this back to Tom and have him add Dorothy, Toto, the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion down below though!
