DescriptionHere at the end of a long Thanksgiving holiday weekend, I am thankful for this hobby. It is as much about the relationships and friendships we forge as it is the art we collect. A little over a week ago I was on the east coast and drove two hours into Brooklyn to catch lunch, exchange art, and do some portfolio flips with Kavi H. We met online after I got back into OA collecting two years ago, and I knew this would finally be an opportunity for an in person meet-up since we live on opposite coasts. It was everything we enjoy about conventions without the crowds and contagions! So glad schedules, and weather, and everything worked out.Kavi and I both made some High Republic page purchase from Ario Anindito in advance of NYCC. Kavi was kind enough to pick mine up at the show, and hold them until we could connect. Saving on international shipping is another benefit of a network of collector friends! About the page - Newly-minted Jedi Knight Keeve Trennis, her former Master Sskeer, and the Kotabi bond-twins Terec and Ceret, are on a mission and encounter a wrecked starship. The inside of the ship is filled with gas. A Nihil attack! They split into teams of two to search for survivors and answers. Keeve has never faced the pirates, but Sskeer did at the Battle of Kur, where he lost his arm. In the top panel, involuntarily, Sskeer thinks back to the battle. Ceret tells Keeve the twins can feel Sskeer undergoing severe trauma. Keeve asks Sskeer if everything is all right, and he insists it is, telling her to concentrate on the mission and inquiring as to whether she's found the flight deck, which she has. But the smoke is thicker than ever, so she begins to push it back with the Force, puzzled at why Sskeer feels the need to remind her to do that. On the following page the smoke clears to reveal the corpse of a Hutt and its guard, so Keeve can certainly tell her Master that she has, indeed, found something. This board features Ario’s pencils, I’ll be posting Mark’s inked board separately. Additional images show the published page, Ario holding the art at NYCC, and me and Kavi during my visit to Brooklyn. Happy holidays, and thanks to all in our community! Social/Sharing |

I really dig Ario's fine pencil lines. Interestingly enough, I discovered his work by tuning into an episode of The Original Art Hour on Kavi's YouTube channel, which everyone should check out. So great that you and Kavi could finally get together in person, I'd have loved to have been there!

Kavi's excitement for the High Republic comics (with his interest also extending to the companion novels) and this book's art team definitely rubbed off on me! This Star Wars era has quickly established itself as the one I'd most like to see developed for a live action series or movie.

Well it's Sunday night
A new post has begun
I turn to my Kavi
Hold some artwork fun
I see a comic convention here in NYC
The comic art each week is their specialty
I got Anindito, make everything tight
Cause Jedi Knight Star Wars coming on tonight
Are you ready
Are you ready
Are you ready, ready
Are you ready for some Star War?
A Jedi Knight party
Hey, this is "Wedding" Jeffrey's van
Driving to get the good time started
We got Ario for real
And he turned down the wife
One of Kavi's friends is back, art comics night
