DescriptionAmazing Spider-Man # 14 design variant coverArt by Ed McGuinness Marvel Comics - November 23rd, 2022 This issue was full of firsts. Ben Reilly and Janine (formerly Elizabeth Tyne) meet with the Goblin Queen. Ben leaves as Chasm and Janine becomes Hallows' Eve. Marvel.com referred to Hallows' Eve as "BRAND-NEW villain that you won't believe." McGuinness does some of the coolest character designs and redesigns in my humble opinion. I feel fortunate to own this type of work. I love seeing the process and seeing the early, raw and pure thoughts and lines where the artist breathes life into these characters for the first time. It's been super cool to see someone at Marvel appreciate this type of work as well with the release of design variant covers in the past ten years or so. I'm happy to say part of these designs were published as a variant cover for her first appearance issue. I'm happy to share this piece so CAFers can see the additional artwork that wasn't on the published cover as well! Additionally, Ed did a quick drawing for the corner box artwork, which I've added in the additional image section. July 2022 - Marvel teased the new character at San Diego Comic Con November 23, 2022 - ASM 14 hits shelves November 29, 2022 - Marvel announces Hallows' Eve spin-off miniseries March 1, 2023 - First issue of the Hallows' Eve solo series is released Social/Sharing |

I totally agree. I love how they made the elements fit and gave it a splash of color for the variant cover.

Very cool to see the design work getting featured as covers. It does an effective job of telling the character's story.

I love character design covers like this. And when Ed McGuinness is involved, and it's a first appearance to boot, well, that's ultra cool!

IMO, some of the best pieces of art are the ones that show the artist's process in some way. This is a great design sheet from McGuinness. It's nicely finished, too, with his fantastic style. And, I want to get those masks! Especially that zombie one. C'mon Marvel! Do it

Great call out and I totally agree. I'd love to see these mask IRL or a Hallows' Eve action figure with the masks and different face options.

i love halloween art. when it's fun and this character design has this in spades. everything from a 1st apperance to the creepy crawlys. thanks for sharing.

In general I, too, really dig Ed's design pieces, but you can tell he put a lot of time, and pen, into this one! Lotsa different images and lotsa notes! And a first appearance cover?! Yes sir! Congrats!

I wonder if he has a model sheet for his Cosmic She-Hulk design. I've always been interested to know what his thought process was, especially for that Big Barda-esque battle bikini lol
