Description
Charming illustration done by Jack Cole for Humorama. Originally published in Sept 1955 Gee-Whiz and later again in Sept 1962 in Jest. My first Cole. Although I liked Cole's earlier comic work, he was a genius when it came to illustration and I have long admired his work. The art is scarce and not all of them appeal to me so I was lucky to add this gem to my collection. There is a lot to like about this one including the textures both in the technique and in the fabrics, the lighting, the expressions and the silent gag is perfect.

Stunning art by Jack Cole! I love his ink washes. Did you know that Jack Cole worked for Quality Comics in the 1940s and is credited with creating the character Plastic Man? He also worked with Will Eisner on The Spirit. But I love his single panel gags even more for their sheer artistry!

So, you're saying you got a lump of Cole in your stocking?

But in all seriousness, these are gorgeous and great ones like this are scarce. Huge congrats and happy holidays, Jeff!

Cole's line weights are very elegant for the feminine form.  The shading is done right and the blonde hair is just as illuminating as the lamp.

Massive congrats! I ogle these carefully whenever they appear and this was a serious contender. Good eye, as usual.
