Description
George Evans/Reed Crandall: Classics Illustrated #160 "In Freedom's Cause", Story Page 18 (Thorpe & Porter of Great Britain, 1962). An intense sequence from Crandall's interpretation of George Alfred Henry's account of the Scots Rebellion. The event is a confrontation between a band of defenders against the tyranny of the church. Proof positive of Crandall's status as one of the all-time-great comics artists. Though assigned for the American Classics Illustrated, the story saw publication in Europe only until 1969, when it appeared in one of the last few Gilberton U.S. Classics editions. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. The image area measures approximately 12" x 18".

Every panel is a standalone illustrated beauty!  The lettering is a bit too perfect on these like textbooks which made them less appealing to kids.
