Description

For me this piece is truly sentimental. Back in the spring of 1990 I had just started reading superhero comics and while it was the second issue of Excalibur I got, it was the first one that made any sense to me. Number 23 was my first and I had no idea what the Cross-Time Caper was or who most of the characters were except Kitty Pryde and Nightcrawler. So two weeks later I picked up number 24 and the rest was history. From that moment on, Kitty Pryde was my favorite comic character and for years I wanted to own a page from this issue with her on it.

When I first joined CAF in April 2022 I looked to see if anything was available from this issue and I saw this page in the former owner's gallery. Off and on I would hem and haw about making him an unsolicited offer on the page but I kept talking myself out of doing that, instead I told myself to just bide my time and something will come along. One day I'm scrolling through the for sale section and I saw that this page was available! After picking my jaw off the floor I contacted the owner and the next day I was paying for the piece. Thank you Grant for selling this to me!

Davis' 80's big glam hairstyles and the devil may care attitude he puts in this really comes through so cleanly from Neary's finishes. It's a self contained page that is quiet, yet builds Kitty's character that endears us even more to her.

Davis and Neary were just perfect on Excalibur, and Claremont's characterization was not too shabby either
