I was a loyal reader paying cover price for about 80 issues hooked on Denny O'Neil writing after meeting him at a con and having him sign GL/GA reprint comics. This is one of the best images I remember from the issues I read. Kitson was clean, sharp, and concise artwork unlike the rest of the Batman line of comics at the time.

Completely agreed. Denny O'Neil was what sucked me in to the series as well since I was such a big fan of his classic '70s Batman stories and so many other series that he wrote over the decades. Also, who better to write the ongoing series than the writer who created the character?

As for the art... I instantly loved Kitson's "clean" look. Much different than Quesada's version and the other few appearances of Azrael prior to the ongoing series. Kitson is the definitive Azrael artist to me and his take is how I view Jean Paul Valley. This DPS is also one of my favorite Kitson images of Azrael... second only to some of his covers.
