Description"It's Your World Now!"This original 5.25" x 12" drawing on velum tracing paper by renowned Dungeons & Dragons illustrator Clyde Caldwell was a preliminary sketch approved before the creation of the wraparound book cover for White Wolf Publishing's 2003 EverQuest Role-Playing Game: Game Master’s Guide. The artist later offered a limited run of 300 prints through his online store. The image depicts a dual-wielding skeleton, attired in tattered Freeport Militia guardsman garb, going aggro. The officially licensed adaptation brings EverQuest back to its pen-and-paper roots. Based on the d20 System, the Game Master’s Guide catalogs background lore from the highly popular online computer title, as well as provides rules and tips to designing successful campaigns of your own. The final oil painting, which now resides in a private collection in Italy, features a collage of fantasy characters inspired by EverQuest, like Emperor Crush reigning from his orc throne. According to Caldwell, the dark elf headhunter originally held her bloody prize more prominently until White Wolf objected to the grisliness. The dark elf equipped with the Staff of the Serpent, an actual in-game item, also underwent changes to differentiate her from Keith Parkinson's Firiona Vie: the enchanter casts Illusion High Elf to mask her true identity. The skeletal warrior experienced a transformation of its own, becoming more refined with raggedy clothing and chain mail remnants. Mobs of skeletons shuffle across the world of Norrath, their high-pitched shrieks of laughter echoing in the nightmares of many a traveler. They most frequently drop bone chips as loot, a necessary ingredient for necromancers wishing to reanimate the undead to serve as pets in battle. Freeport operates as a busy, somewhat grubby metropolis of roaming caravans and merchant ships on the southeastern shores of Antonica. Visitors can board a boat in the East Freeport dock to sail over the Ocean of Tears towards Faydwer, the homeland of dwarves, gnomes, and wood elves. The more unsavory denizens hide out in the shadowy network of sewers below the city. The Freeport Militia defends against outside threats, such as Death Fist Orcs, and also patrols the nearby Commonlands to the west. Their uniform consists of armor and a red-and-blue garment with a gold anchor emblem to signify the bustling harbor town. Social/Sharing |

It looks fantastic by itself with the screaming skull and the Harryhausen look of stop motion. Put it in the context of the game and it elevates the piece even more!
