Description

I don't have a Thing vs Hulk page, so this fits the bill very well whilst fitting the wallet as well. Yes, there's no "physical interaction" between the two but you do get both behemoths facing off with each other (with some corny, yet appropriate, dialog to boot). It is also drawn by the great Jim Starlin and inked by Al Milgrom as well. I have always liked the Thing and I have always liked the Hulk, so what's there not to like even more about this particular page? This is a great piece of artwork and will be in my collection for the foreseeable future.

CAB with another fantastic pickup! Always love seeing these two heavyweights go at it and Starlin and Milgrom always deliver.

Many thanks!  And many congratulations on a fantastic "Hulk Smash!" Gallery, amongst other things.

Wow CAB. A Hulk will smash page against the Thing. Excellent Starlin/ Milgrom artwork. A trully awesome piece and congrats.

Many thanks, Ian!  It isn't an all out action page as such, but the composition and artwork is really very, very nice.

Thanks so much, Dino!  Starlin's take on both the Thing and the Hulk is quite different from the renditions by other artists, and it is just great to have both characters in the same story.

Many thanks, Mikail!  I totally agree.  His Thing wasn't half bad too - less "rocky" than Kirby's version.

I too became an immediate fan of both of these characters when I first began collecting comics. So imagine what a thrill it was for me to see these two issues of Marvel Fanfare come out, perhaps only 2 years into my entry into the hobby! You picked a page with excellent content. For a moment, I thought The Thing was giving us all the middle finger!

Many thanks, Rubén!  You are young - relatively speaking!  Thank goodness the Thing only has four fingers!

Congrats CAB!  Love the bottom 4 panels, especially the one with The Thing motioning and daring and then The Hulk with the Frankenstein look!

Many thanks, Nick!  My apologies if you were also thinking of this page but, as mentioned, I didn't have any Hulk vs Thing pages and was pleasantly surprised that I did get it in the end.

That 2nd panel could have become a 2nd print cover if that  were a thing in the 80s..like it is these days!

Great page - and you could make a case that Thing is flipping hulk off in the lower left panel!

As I mentioned to Rubén, thank goodness the Thing has only four fingers.  On the other hand, I guess you could argue that that is the closest he could come in making that "gesture" (and also given that it was not subject to a body such as the Comics Code Authority).  I prefer a more PG rated interpretation though!

Honestly, any comics fan whose pulse doesn't quicken at the thought of a throwdown between these two has to be... well... severely incapacitated in some way.  What's not to love?  What could be more nostalgic?  What could possibly be a better example of four-color comfort food?  And here you have Starlin's wonderfully executed "wind up" before the battle (where Ben will inevitably put Bruce's lights out, amirite? ;) ).  I mean, they bring out every trick in the book to build the tension: Hulk arriving to the battle in exciting fashion, the shot of the underdog through Hulk's legs, the two opponents squaring off (and I love the buildings behind them in panel 4: Hulk with the larger, sleeker building; Thing with the visual pun squat brownstone...), then the taunting on the bottom tier...  Spectacular!  Now you need to pick up the following page so I can see what happens... :)  Congrats on another epic score, CAB!

Many thanks, Jason!  What an amazing and detailed description par excellence!  I am afraid that I cannot afford an actual battle page but this is wonderful all the same.
