DescriptionOf all the On Stage pieces I've owned, this one has always been in the worst condition. It's very yellow, and it has a stat in the first panel. But for some reason, I just love it. It's a great, tense moment in this storyline, and I love how Starr makes us feel the tension by cramming everyone together in the panels. The inking is great too - and I love the expression on Christy's face - she's wanting to see her husband's reaction to the news (you must read the story). Her face is so small - like the size of my thumbnail (literally), yet it's so expressive and detailed. Starr was amazing. Also - pretty sure I got this for free when I bought a bunch of other strips from Leonard!Social/Sharing |

The dialogue is well scripted and has a rhythm to it even in the roundabout way they converse with each other.

Yes, the dialogue was very adult and ahead of its time. I've often said that most people mistake the series for a "soap opera", but in fact it was more of an adventure strip, believe it or not. Mary kept being sent all over the United States and even other countries, on the premise of getting acting jobs, but she would inevitably get caught up and embroiled in one mystery or another. If I was ever forced to have to get rid of most of my TPB collection and could only keep a handful, my complete On Stage collection would stay over most of the superhero material. I really enjoyed it that much and definitely recommend you try it if you haven't already. Beautifully composed panels, here, with excellent figure placement and beautiful draftsmanship!
