Description
Butch the Bulldog is a WD character created in 1940. He appears as Pluto's arch nemesis and was voiced by Clarence Nash. At Kauai in Hawaii, Lieutenant Colonel Thomas G. McFarland organized the United States Marine Corps 17th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion on 19 April, 1944 from which was originally the 2nd Airdrome Battalion. The redesignation gave rise to the nickname "Two; Seventeen," and the motto "One of a Kind." It moved to Saipan in July and to Tinian in August. At the latter island, it provided antiaircraft defense for both Tinian Town and North Field, from which B-29s took off with atomic bombs that leveled Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It has the distinction of being the last defense battalion formed by the Marine Corps during the war. Insignia designed by the Walt Disney Studio in Feb. 1943. Published in WDC&S #34 and in LEATHERNECK July 1943.
Has a close resemblance to Dirty Bill from Robber Kitten! Same genes?

A rare piece of Disney history that has real world significance that should be preserved and well documented for fans of the company and as a part of history.
