Description
Terence Fisher directed the very best of the Hammer Gothics, including Horror of Dracula, The Curse of Frankenstein, Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed, Dracula, Prince of Darkness, and so many others. A self-effacing man by most accounts, Fisher's legacy is one of renown by his peers and fans alike as the quintessential Hammer Gothics auteur. (A word Fisher himself likely would have hated).

Fortunately for me, since I'm hooked on Hammer horror, Bruce Timm is probably as much of a fan of these films as I am. I'm happy there's at least one comic artist out there who shares my passion for all things Hammer.

I've postponed the inevitable and considered and reconsidered a purchase of this homage piece a bunch of times over the years. I've always changed my mind until now. That purple can feel almost overpowering and daunting to relegate to the periphery of vision, while I'm still not entirely sure it doesn't distract from the nifty cameos of Fisher flicks behind it.

Be that as it may or may not be, this illustration seems too much of a perfect fit for my Hammer tribute Itoya consisting of Timm art for me not to acquire it.

Movies referenced here are, clockwise: (a) Frankenstein Created Woman, with Peter Cushing and Playboy Playmate Susan Denberg ; (b) Brides of Dracula?, with David Peel; (c) The Mummy, starring Christopher Lee ; (d) The Gorgon, played by Prudence Hyman ; (e) The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll?, with Paul Massie ; (f) The Curse of the Werewolf, featuring Oliver Reed ; (g) Horror of Dracula and Dracula, Prince of Darkness, with Lee ; and (h) The Phantom of the Opera, starring Herbert Lom.

Special thanks to Albert Moy, for a kindness that made it possible for me to add this to my collection.

Love the Hammer Studios films (all hail Caroline Munro).  Someone really needs to make a box set of those.  Anyway, what I love about this is that there's just nothing on it that screams (pardon the pun) Timm.  Nonetheless, it's a brilliant and effective TF tribute.  Love the negative space portrait, and the collage images of the Directors assorted films.  Bruce really put a lot of thought and work into this.  So I guess you're right about him being a big fan.  Again, great piece and great tribute.  Congrats buddy!

Much like the magazine itself, this was done for the love of the Hammer films and celebrate that period in horror film history.  While it has a limtied appeal, the passion for it runs deep and needed the right buyer.  With so few new full color covers being made by Timm, now is a good time to bring this one home and put a shine on it.
