DescriptionThis one really moves me. It’s less of a traditional depiction and more of an abstract cosmic mystery - a work of color and “feel”. I love the simplicity of concept and mastery of anatomy and painting technique.Alex’s recent Surfer pieces have really seemed like a turning point or new phase for this amazing talent, and I am absolutely -thrilled- to own an original Maleev watercolor - especially one that drips with such style and the artist’s unorthodox POV. So, so cool; an amazing study at 15x22. Social/Sharing |

Superb piece, Jason - congrats! The layout is inspired and the execution is one that few could achieve. Beautiful.

I love the mix and organic application of color in Alex's pieces, especially his Surfer ones. Great example here, with the head and upper torso most shaded. The mirror effect below him is pretty cool, and the textured art board adds another layer of visual goodness. A big piece, too! Congrats!

The Maleev parade starts with a BANG... determined, regal and serene Surfer. Always so at ease despite the burden on those Atlas shoulders. His board as pure as the purest water.

Wonderfully and deceptively simple and abstract with a mute color palette doing a great job at evoking space.

Whoa. First of all what an incredible design/composition. I also just love the feathery, indistinct edges.

Such a refined piece by Maleev. Would love to see an entire book with him tackling the Surfer.

No chance that Burkey’s got. (ha ha yeah)
Up against Anthony too strong.
Maleev illustrations painting soul to us, drips buckets.
Won't find his space and time.
Now, tries to swing around your Surfer now, boy.
'Cause it’s just the silver in lines.
'Cause Mike’s got No chance, no chance in hell.

SS seems to provide the perfect means of expression for several amazing artists lately, including Maleev. Great example!

Loved the abstract feel he got here. That water effect below his feet is a perfect example of a happy accident. Beautiful piece, congrats.

Yes, more of an abstract "fine art" piece, if you will. If I remember my geometry from having home schooled my little one during the 20-21 Covid year, that's an irregular quadrilateral that Norrin is hovering above and I love how it forms the base of the illustration while everything above it is just plain white space. I also really like the technique he used to create the reflection below him. Kudos!

Wow! I've seen a lot of Silver Surfer pieces, but never one quite like this. Alex Maleev does the seemingly impossible here, he manages to find a whole new way to depict the Surfer, and he does it beautifully. I love the silhouetted figure here, painted in a stippled manner, with deeper crimson on the head and shoulders fading to grey for the torso, and then deepening to crimson on the legs. The mirrored base of the art gives SS a kind of majesty. The whole illustration is absolutely stunning! Great pick-up!

I'm generally a traditionalist about comic art. But this one is a real gem.
