DescriptionHappy Halloween and end of Bat-tober, everyone!I tried oh, so very, very hard to resist the siren's call of this piece at Comic Art Live last Spring, but upon seeing this 14 x 17 beauty, all my resolve went out the window (and clambered up a chimney on a cold, moonlit night). This one feels less like Gotham City and more like a quaint village setting to me, but it TOTALLY works (and adds a great flavor to the mood and story of the piece); the Dark Knight Detective feels right at home here, with his Spawn-like cape framing his rickety perch in cool negative space… Alex Maleev does it again! Thank you once more, Rob! Happy Batober, everyone! Social/Sharing |

Strong organic quality, all with that exclusively and sublimely applied ink wash! Few do it like Maleev. Can see why you had to break down and nab, man :) Congrats!

I was buyin'
It’s a CAF Live dream
Just a-postin'
For this Halloween
One art fan
Who was looking for Batman
Now I'm hopin' (hopin')
Gothic feeling is right
And I'm wonderin' (wonderin')
If it’s great in moonlight
So I'm lookin' (I don't see him in city)
Oh (Maleev, please tell me)
I wanna love you Batober
Do you Maleev in love?
(Do you Maleev it's true?)
Do you Maleev that it's true? (Do you Maleev in love?)
Oh, you're making me Maleev it too

Oh, my God... I was -howling-, Marcus. I'll often read your lyrics a line at a time (no skipping ahead to the chorus or what-have-you) to see if I can suss out the tune, and I pegged this one pretty early on (thanks to you nailing the meter and cadence), which is pretty rare for me (you stump me more often than not :) )... But I was -NOT- prepared for the 'Do you Maleev in love?'... ROTFL! THANK YOU, Marcus! Happy Halloween, everyone!

The subtle washed out blacks and the cape's flow make this one stunning Batman image!

It looks effortless, it's super fluid and that cape has weight.
Wonderful.

The big takeaway for me is that I would NEVER guess Maleev drew this. I'd guess Mignola or Toth before I guessed Maleev! Either way, I just love how organic the entire piece is! Congrats, it's always fun to see how happy you are with a new piece!

Great piece! Such a rich sky and all the details of the figure, chimney, and cape suggested by an economy of shadows

Gorgeous Batman commission by Alex Maleev. I love the simplicity of this painting. The background is virtually all black while Batman is lighter shades of grey. The column he stands on is pure white with no detail. The whole effect is unsettling, it's not your usual Batman image. Love it.

..."Do you Maleev in Love..." I do as this beauty "washes" over me.
