DescriptionUnusual cover painting by British artist E.P. Kinslella (1889-1934) for the novel 'The Deadfall' by US author Edison Marshall, writer of fantasy fiction about lost lands (amongst other things). The novel was first published in 1927 so I'm assuming this was painted in the 1920s/1930s. I don't know if this version of the cover ever reached publication as I have so far only found copies of the novel with a different cover.The signature is untypical insofar as it seems to be incomplete - 'E.P.K.(I?)' - although I have seen one other piece with a similar signature on the Victoria and Albert Museum website. The full image - with deteriorating lettering - can be seen in the additional images. The photo is a little over exposed and out of focus - I'll have another go at some point! Social/Sharing |
