Description

Thanks to Rich, I was finally able to fill a major hole in my collection that has existed since I started collecting art in 2015 - Willingham Elementals. Few comics from the 80s made me feel as much a part of the club as Elementals did. Here was a cool superhero book that wasn't from DC or Marvel that you could only get in a comic shop and that dealt with adult themes. Bill could not have tapped into my adolescent psyche more if he had tried.

This great page from issue 7 features Fathom and Vortex. And, as many Elementals issues did in those early days, it prominently features rain (maybe because of the Seattle setting). You can see Willingham still working through spacing as he really got his legs under him. But, that raw energy of an early artist was one of the things that made Elementals special.

I was lucky enough to grab this page from Rich in the opening minutes of Comic Art Live Spring 2023.

Very fun self contained page as well! It has the aesthetic of the era which was influenced by Byrne, Golden... yada yada, yada, very much the product of its time!
