Description

f you're a person of a certain age, you fondly remember the Bazooka Joe strips wrapped around every piece of Bubble Gum. The strip was continually published from 1954 to 2012.

Circa the early 1980's they freshened things up a bit by rotating "Funny Fortunes" with the regular strip. Fortunes had always appeared at the bottom of the regular comic and were very popular, so making them a lead feature made sense.

The artist on this strip was Jay Lynch (1945-2017) who was the lead creative force with the Bazooka Joe strip from 1967 to 1990. Lynch was a giant in the industry. A respected and pioneering force in underground comics who counted Art Spiegelman, Bill Griffith, Kim Deitch, and others as friends and admirers. He went on to producing material for Topps Wacky Packages, Garbage Pail Kids, and MAD Magazine as well as authoring his own children's books.
