I have been noticing the comics work of the UK's Zoe Thorogood, an exciting talent to enter the industry, and she came to NC for a store signing, which I was happy to attend. Including elements of manga, classic American comics, and European styles as well as using a variety of styles even within the same page has really drawn me to her art, and her semi-autobiographical and autobiographical work impresses me to no end. I am a big fan of autobiography done in comic form (Maus, Persepolis, Blankets, and March are some favorites which have had great impact on me) and it inspires me greatly when I see artists freely expressing the difficulties and trauma they have experienced in this way. I want to do this with my own life (and have been producing content in scraps and pieces for decades), but it is a nerve-wracking and anxiety-ridden process for me. Every time I get excited by a comic autobiography it helps me in my own process a little bit. One day, however, I will publish an autobiographical graphic novel of some sort...mark my words.

This gorgeous splash page is from "The Impending Blindness of Billie Scott," Zoe's debut graphic novel which is now out of print. It's about A4 size, pen and ink.

Was eyeing this one for a long time. Even came close to buying it a couple of years ago during the Cadence Christmas sale. A great splash from a great book. Zoey is definitely one to watch.
