Description

In the wake of Crisis on Infinite Earths DC took the opportunity to update the origins for various heroes, with changes large and small from previous iterations. This issue featured Adam Strange and Dr. Occult. Many of Strange's adventures end with his Zeta beam fading, sending him back to Earth. In this Gerry Conway story, Strange fades eight pages before the end and must wait six months before returning to Rann to conclude his adventure.

It seems that originally the caption on the first panel was intended to go below the art. But on the final page, the caption was added on top. This made the panel too high on the tier, so a stat was made of it and glued a little lower down. The glue has since dried and the stat come free, revealing the identical art underneath, a few millimeters higher on the page. I still have the stat, and it's seen on the image of the art posted here. The "Fading away" images of Adam Strange are also stats, processed to make them appear faded and then glued on top of the original art.

Infantino's style had changed so much over the years.  I like that DeZuniga's skills worked wonders on this page.

So cool that they got Infantino to revisit the origin.  The layouts look like it did back then.  The DeZuniga inks deepen the illustrative fantasy look over the sci-fi look.
