Description
This may be the very first piece of Stipan's posted on CAF and what better way for him to make his entrance here than with one of the defining visual images from 20th CENTURY MEN. Issue 4 and the Americans arrive in Afghanistan. An American super-soldier zombie squad called the Suicide Cowboys. It's a fantastic bit of iconography with the football helmets and baseball bats that may have been comedic rather than harrowing in lesser hands. The sequence is made up of the battle we're about to see overlaid by three distinct narrative threads describing future perspectives of what occurred. Plus our 4th interpretation of what we're seeing of course. The first casualty of war is truth etc. It's an impressive work over 6 issues made more impressive by being the debut work of this creative team. Deniz Camp, Stipan Morian and Aditya Bidikar take the first three issues to lock in and Issue 4's where the SNAP happens. As readers, we can only be thankful that they're full of plans to keep the band together. As art collectors, we can only be thankful that plenty of this book's pages are less than $200 (in this hobby!) and Stipan's an epic scale kinda guy, this page is something like 19x25.

Hard charging action in the fog of war!  In between the brush and line work, the different shades of wash gives them only limited variation as they storm and attack as one unit.  Their crazed look show that they are wired with all synapses firing as this could be their last moment of existance.

Love the sports battle gear, killing field miasma, and dire facial expressions!  Strong and distinctive look and feel to this series
