Description

The military newspaper Stars and Stripes began in 1861. Although less important in the internet age, for decades it provided a mix of news, humor, and cheesecake to American troops around the world. This ongoing strip of the 1940s provided plenty of the latter two, as seen here. Gil Fox worked for Quality Comics both before and after World War II, and he later assisted Dik Browne on his popular newspaper strip Hi and Lois. The art speaks for itself, with ample use of zip-a-tone cutouts for different textures.
