DescriptionI kind of liked this title - a little bit of the Mad Magazine humor, albeit applied to Marvel and DC comics. Marie Severin did a splendid job on this particular story and this page. And it's a little bit special for me because it is a Western parody that also includes ... (yes, you've guessed it) ... the Two-Gun Kid (here, the Too-Gone Kid)! Parodies of Kid Colt and the Rawhide Kid as well - as the ones who are being pursued by the Too-Gone Kid.Social/Sharing |

Hey, it's got that western guy you like! Marie Severin deserves a lot more acclaim for the rise of early Marvel and all the design work she did to spur it's growth into the 70's and beyond!

Many thanks, Marcus! And yes it does! You are also spot on upon Marie's design work as witnessed in the many prelim covers she did for Marvel, amongst other things.

Many thanks, Ted! Marie was a really gifted and versatile artist indeed but I agree that some of her best (and funniest) work was in Not Brand Echh.

I loved Marie's work in this series (and when she did similiarly styled work as well) `- what a great example! The new home page looks amazing - some historic and epic pieces on display. Congrats all around!

Many thanks once again, Dave! I think the title of Dewey's book put it well - Marie Severin: The Mirthful Mistress of Comics. But she did lots of other work which was fantastic as well (including numerous cover concepts/prelims).

Your collection of old paper with marks on it grows ever better.

Many thanks, Peter! Unfortunately, old paper costs far too much nowadays!

As the huge Two-Gun Kid fanatic that you are, I believe that a parody piece from this title was a "must have" to round out this part of your collection. Marie was a great cartoonist and an even lovelier lady.

Many thanks, Rubén! As always, you are absolutely spot-on! I never had the privilege of meeting Marie but have always heard only good things about her.

Many thanks, Mark! Yes, she was a genius but always modest and understated despite all her contributions.

Ah, this is glorious. As others have noted, it really is Severin at her very best. The western elements are terrific, but I love all of the screwball sight gags. Elements that you'd find in Smoky Stover. The Goldwater button in panel three cracks me up. Terrfic stuff. Congrats my friend.

Many thanks, Rob! Yes, it was Marie Severin at her very best indeed! For me, it also brings back extremely fond memories of what seems to me now to be a bit of a bygone era.
