Legendary story and maybe Johnson's most memorable work. Any page from it has meaning as it was a tight narrative. The Communist symbolism on the page is strong and Clark is steeped in it to feel its pull with his Soviet upbringing. Puts the Nature vs. Nurture debate front and center.
