Description

In the first four issues of this space-pirate story, Captain Raader endured a mutiny and was marooned. She's found her way back to her schooner, and the crew has fared poorly without her. On this spread, she gives them a rousing speech that wins their loyalty back and lifts their spirits.

Then the human Domino Drake uses her elemental powers to emulate Human Torch, putting "wind" in the solar sails. Her costume got mixed reviews from readers, especially its Mickey Mouse ears. But the point is that she's a teenage girl with no fashion sense.

Jackson Guice was artist on the first four issues but then left for a gig on X-Factor. At first, Geof Isherwood provided both pencils and inks. He does particularly well with the facial close-ups on the second panels of each page. On later issues, Ricardo Villamonte inked him. The page numbers are outside the final panel border, which is unusual.

Torch putting wind is a pirate
Blustering air succeeds,
With a plundering song, she sweeps cloudwall,
Swaggering boisterously.

Her face is danger beaten.
The Isherwood buck swashed,
Win loyalty back about her head,
And a bristling ink art stash.

She growls as she storms the country,
A fashion big and bold.
And air seas all shake and quiver and quake,
As she robs them Domino.

The pirates sing Captain Raader,
Pillaging just for fun.
Geof knocks you 'round and upside down,
And laugh when Swashbuckler’s have won.
