Description

Dave Pether (1943-2023) was a British illustrator who contributed to many book cover and magazines as well as television shows and movies. This is a beautifully rendered painting created for the cover of "The Gambling Man" - one of a couple of novels he illustrated for books by Catherine Cookson (Dame Catherine Ann Cookson, DBE a British writer who is in the top 20 of the most widely read British novelists) This "romancy" kind of novel features "Rory" - a young man in 19th Century England (in the slums of a small town in Northeast England) who happens to be a super poker player) Published by Corgi, 1977 . The art was painted in gouache and acrylic on board, approx 10" square, and carries a label on the reverse attesting to authenticity, signed by Pether's widow.
