DescriptionDick Ayers pencils/Romeo Tanghal inks; 1978; image size 10" x 15" ea.Seven page sequence, from the story 'Crossraods', featuring Code Name: Gravedigger. Pen and ink. Art is in excellent condition. Artists Information Richard "Dick" Ayers was an American comic book artist and cartoonist best known for his work as one of the main inkers during the late-1950's and 1960's Silver Age of Comics, including some of the earliest issues of Marvel Comics' including Jack Kirby's The Fantastic Four. He is the signature penciler of Marvel's World War II comic Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos, drawing it for a 10-year run, and he co-created Magazine Enterprises' 1950s Western-horror character the Ghost Rider, a version of which he would draw for Marvel in the 1960s. His career would span 7 decades until his death in 2014. Filipino artist Romeo Tanghal started working in comics after graduating high school. He emigrated to the United States in 1976 where he drew short stories for DC's House of Mystery, House of Secrets, and Weird War Tales. He later became the inker on such features as Super Friends, Scalphunter, and Gravedigger. In 1980, Tanghal became the inker of George Pérez's pencils for The New Teen Titans. Powerful page pulled from reality about the cruelty and perversion of the vile Nazis. These were meant to teach a lesson of how they are the enemies for which all humanity stands against. Ayer's extensive credits in the genre shows up here with a great passion for these scenes that he knew were more important than other pages. Tanghal solidifies and enhances the emotions of despair.
