J. Edgar Hoover aka The Untouchable was card #34 created by Bill as part of a 36 card set published in 1990 by Eclipse.

Full title of the deck is Coup D'Etat: The Assassination of John F. Kennedy.

Also shown is a detail, as well as images of the set and card as published.

Was going to test out a theory that if I stop commenting on these incredible Sienkiewicz pieces, you might stop torturing me with them. But I gotta admit, I love seeing each one. So keep em coming.

Great portrait piece by Sienkiewicz. Unlike his series for the recently deceased, you can see that he drew this with contempt. The cracks show up in linework and in the painting style to shade him and his role in this affair. Timed when non sport trading cards were popular and when the Oliver Stone JFK movie was starting up with a renewed interest in a reckoning with history.

Eclipse had some interesting trading card sets way back when with some spectacular artwork. Sienkiewicz gives us an image of Hoover that captures his essence better than any photograph could.
