DescriptionI honestly don’t even know where to start with this description, when I saw this cover shared during solicitations I thought it was great, but I was (at the time) laser focused on the cover B by Brett Booth & Adelso Corona for this issue and I was fortunate to have been able to purchase that one from Adelso (it’s amazing and also posted in my gallery). Well some time passed and then I see this one previewed during one of Felix’s art drops. So, while I knew it was going to be a battle of the fastest Internet connection, I made it a priority to go after this one. Obviously we know the result! While I absolutely love both covers in their own right, it feels incredibly cool to own both covers from Gunslinger Spawn #21!A little bit more about this one, during all of 2023, each month Todd has been handpicking artists to draw all of the main covers for the 4 Spawn titles. With Stevens, his initial ideas for his 4 cover was to have them each feature a limited color palette. His plan for this one was for it to be primarily a yellow/orange piece. While he was working on it, he added a little bit of green…and then he just kept going with it and man am I glad he did. All 4 of his Spawn covers were great, but this one, in my eyes was the clear standout. It could also have something to do with my love of Gunslinger Spawn character. I just love that he added a bit of supernatural goodness with the, what I am calling tentacle demons, in this western setting. You’ll hear many compliment his color work, and having now held one of his originals in hand, add me to the list! Not to sound cliche, but the colors truly pop. A big part of that comes from his process. He pencils first, then lays down a layer of markers, water colors over that, more marker and then inks over top of that leading to a truly stunning visual feast! Social/Sharing |

Great pick up. Chris has such a unique level of detail, and the color palette serves this piece well. Congrats!

Thanks so much! I specifically asked him if there was a story behind the tentacles or was it just something he thought would look cool (which they do), he said he wished there was a story, it was just something he added for fun. I'd read that story!

Thanks! I honestly think it may have been you who sent it to me when it was first solicited (I was distracted by the Booth cover)! Thanks for looking out!

You can tell it's an all out effort by just the hat that could have just been solid black, but Stevens don't roll like that. It has even more detail than warranted to have it consistent with the rest of the cover.

Last night, no lie I was just starting at his outstretched gloved hand. So much to take in, all over this one!

Beautiful art and tentacles for days.
I'll say, those tentacle demon creatures really tap into the supernatural elements of the Spawn Universe nicely!

Congrats Carl! You were a nanosecond faster than me!(I was second). I'm glad it ended up in your collection if it couldn't be in mine. Chris's colors are so gorgeous. This thing is amazing!

I appreciate the kind words! I knew this one wouldn't last long so I knew I had to be quick. I do hope it helps knowing that both covers to #21 are together (in a portfolio now, but I do want to frame them next to each other). Best of luck to you on the one! Those Felix drops are stressful!

If there is a second date after that...very positive outlook on the relationship!

Wow! Wow! Wow! What a fantastic painting of Gunslinger Spawn by the talented Chris Stevens. Of course, Chris always does amazing work but this one is something special. Cool color choices with the orange tentacles, the red and black Gunslinger Spawn and the green background--Chris really knows how to make the main characters pop! Love Chris's depiction of Gunslinger Spawn in a classic Western shootout pose. Chris' incredibly detailed style really brings him to life! And the horrific snakelike tentacles that surround Gunslinger Spawn take on a truly hideous appearance here under Chris' careful eye. Phenomenal commission, congrats!
