Description"SABRES OF THE REICH" Artist: DAVE PETHER Dave Pether (1943-2023) was a British illustrator who contributed to many book cover and magazines as well as television shows and movies. This is one of several paperback book cover illustrations he created for WWII adventure novels by Leo Kessler (pseud Charles Whiting) for Futura - this one published 1976 - and featuring "the Black Cossacks". (I show the published cover for reference only) It was painted in gouache and acrylic on illustration board, in wraparound landscape format, 12.5" x 17.25". It will carry a label on the reverse, attesting to authenticity, signed by Pether's estate. At some time during the past 50 years or so the painting experienced some wear and tear. There is some damage to the edge of the board, possible paint loss along the top edge where the paper covering was once in place, and some possible scrapes and scuffs here and there. It needs alittle help to return to its former glory . Social/Sharing |
