DescriptionDonald Duck might seem like an odd character choice for a sketch that I have in my collection since all of my other posted pieces are super hero related -- and I have to agree. However, how I got this sketch is very different from the way I acquired my other pieces.I was very good friends with Bruce and Helen Hamilton (Another Rainbow Publishing), and so in the summer of 1986, they asked me if I was planning to attend the San Diego Con, and when I said that I was, they asked me if I would help out at their booth since they were going to have a large room full of Disney art and they wanted to make certain that they had enough help so that everyone could take breaks and enjoy the Con too. I thought it would be fun, and so I agreed. I should stop here and say that although I certainly have enjoyed Disney movies growing up, and I'm sure that I read some Disney comics too, I was not what anyone else would call an actual Disney fan. It wasn't that I disliked Disney at all, it's just that Disney was not my "go to" comics when I was a kid. So, while working the booth over the course of several days, I got to know everyone else working there too -- and one of them was Don Rosa. I was embarrassed that I had no idea who he was and that he was a well-known artists for Disney comics. Even so, he couldn't have been nicer and thanks to him, I learned a lot more about Disney comics and came to have a much better appreciation of them than I had before I arrived. On the last day of the Con, Don gave me this sketch and thanked me for helping out and letting him educate me about how great comics Disney comics are. It was a very kind and generous gift, and as such, it is now and will continue to be a very important part of my collection. Social/Sharing |

Donald is one of my favorite cartoon characters of all time, and this is an amazing piece to see from one of his greatest contributors
