DescriptionMike Perkins's work is artistically beautiful as well as striking. His ability is exceeded only by his humility and meticulous as well as consummate dedication to his craft - and his generosity as well. He donated this meticulously crafted piece featuring both Marvel's as well as DC's heroes in an amazing pin-up, done, in my view at least, to perfection. As a side note, it isn't easy at all to depict rain and Mike's ability to do so in spades just adds to the atmospheric nature of the piece. When it comes to Hero Initiative, I often don't think about how much it costs (provided of course that I can afford it at the time). This is because of the marvellous work it does to help artists in need. So to be able to contribute in some small way to such a worthy cause AND to receive this wonderful piece of artwork as well is truly a "win-win" situation (I actually do not otherwise like this oftimes snarky description because, from my own experience, it is often only one side that wins, in substance at least). While these monster types could cause havoc across the swath of swamplands, they are indeed by nature a couple of gentle souls trapped within their boggy appearance. They know when to use their powers to help others and when to go all out when needed to take a heroic stance. Perkins captures that mood in this piece to appeal to the hero within, much like he hopes the auction winner would take up the cause as this piece calls upon.

Many thanks, Marcus, for capturing - literally - the hearts and souls of both these characters whilst reiterating the wonderful mission of Hero Initiative. Long may it continue.

CAB, spectacular addition to your collection. The rain affect tied in with the swampiness of the environment that both of these creatures were born. Perkins' is one of the most complete artists in the 2000's. As usual, your eye for great art is exhibited here. Congrats!

Many thanks, Ilia! And many thanks, in particular, for your very perceptive contextual comment.

Great seeing these two characters together, considering the creation and publication history they share.

This is amazing! I knew it would be a popular lot when it appeared on the Heroes action webpage. I hope Perkins does more work on Swamp Thing in the future, and wouldn't this be a great crossover character pairing?

Many thanks! I was thinking the exact same thing but it would require a strong measure of commitment and cooperation to do this.

One Thing from each of the Big Two publishers, and yet nary a rock or stone in sight! Stunning work by Mike in bringing both of these muck-encusted creatures together in what SHOULD be one of many reasons for Marvel and DC to have worked together rather than acting like rivals, and produced sensible cross-publishing team ups like this one over the years! So great to see Mike tackle Marvel's swamp creature and wonderful to see him return to the Swamp once more. Congratulations, CAB!

Many thanks, Rubén! I was thinking exactly the same thing as it isn't as if Marvel and DC have not collaborated before. Never say never, and Mike would be the ideal artist for the crossover!

Many thanks, Nick! It is a GREAT cause indeed and, like many others such as your goodself, I have tried my best to support Hero Initiative as much as I could over the years.

Thanks so much, Jason! Yes, I do agree that it is quite difficult to describe all the wonderful aspects of this particular piece. It comes across, though, as a holistically attractive piece of artwork.

In September of 2023 I was able to attend my very first Baltimore Comic Con! That meant I was also able to go to my first Hero Initiative auction and marvel at the -amazing- pieces of art that had been donated to such a fantastic cause by all the incredible artists. This one was in -very- good company and represented excellence in both art and intention (as you have so accurately already said, CAB!). It was one of my very, -very- favorites then, and still is, to this day! :) Fun to be "in the room" when you won it, and had I known at the time that you had claimed it, I would have been even -happier-. :) A gorgeous and sublime piece of work by the incredible Mike Perkins. Everything is off the charts here: composition, foregrounds, backgrounds, washes... A truly special piece. SINCERE, enormous congrats, CAB!

Thanks so much, Jason. I wish I had been there! It is a truly gorgeous piece of artwork and it is even more meaningful because the funds were going to an excellent cause. Please take good care, my friend.
