My first page of original art. I met Bob Layton at a comic convention at a hotel in Grand Rapids, MI (the Holiday Inn right off the I-131 exit at 28th Street). I believe it was in 1983 or 1984--whenever Secret Wars was being published because I know I bought this before the series was done. I selected it because there's a LOT going on and it was very interesting to someone who had never seen original art before. Every panel is an old style paste-up, there are margin notes (zoom in on the page to read them) and the word balloons are pasted on top of the paste-ups. On top of all this, there are Exacto cuts through the back of the page itself from the production process. It's a fascinating look into how comics are made and it was cool to see that Marvel asked for every single panel be redone on this page. Bob had other pages that weren't redone in any way, but this one captured my interest. When I pulled it out to scan it, it's just as interesting today.
