Wonder Woman Vol 5 #49 (2018) Page 9: Hammer time

In "Attack of the Dark Gods," the gods of violence, apathy, pleasure, and despair have claimed the lands of South America, Britain, China, and Russia for their respective selves. As Wonder Woman battles the gods directly, interspersed pages show the consequences in each area.

So the first panel shows a girl who has killed her family with a hammer (violence). The second panel shows people just standing around in London (apathy). The third shows an elderly Chinese woman getting lost in the pleasure of Tai Chi, which is pretty mild compared to the orgy that erupts around her. The last panel shows a Russian man overwhelmed by fear and despair. The proverb "Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad" seems apropos.

Merino always offers excellent details which look great in black and white. That's true here as well, but the color enhances it further.
