Description

The Tale of Zatoichi (1962) is the first of 26 Zatoichi films starring Shintaro Katsu as the Blind Swordsman in Japan’s longest running film series.

This illustration is the cover art to the Criterion Collection DVD and is also featured in the Criterion Collection book for the Zatoichi DVD box set.

“The Tale of Zatoichi is a 1962 Japanese chanbara film directed by Kenji Misumi and based on the 1948 essay of the same name by Kan Shimozawa. It is the first installment in a long-running jidaigeki film series starring Shintaro Katsu as the blind swordsman Zatoichi.”

So cool they used this for the collection cover - definintely worthy! Those brush strokes with that lighting...sublime stuff. Congrats!
