DescriptionThis is a way cool piece of X-Force history courtesy of Adam Pollina. I adored Adam's work when it hit the stands and I couldn't get enough. In an era where everyone was attacking the X-Books with the Jim Lee "house style", he was part of a select group of newcomers that really breathed a new aesthetic into the books. He brought a leaner, design-heavy and fashionable look to X-Force in and out of their uniforms and I was HOOKED.Per Adam himself, this was done in 1995 when he was first told he got the X-Force gig. He did a series of these to get a feel for the characters and how he would like to approach their design. For Boomer (as well as the other members of the team) he would take their final looks in a drastically different direction but these initial sketches captured what he wanted of their essence. Adam was bouncing back and forth between Marvel and DC at the time he did these which is why the art is on DC Comics board. A new gem in my collection! Social/Sharing |

Gotta get that
Gotta get that
Gotta get that
Gotta get that, that, that, that, that
Boom, boom, boom (gotta get that)
Boom, boom, boom (gotta get that)
Boom, boom, boom (gotta get that)
Boom, boom, boom (gotta get that)
Boom, boom, boom (that)
Boom, boom, boom (that)
Boom, boom, boom
Boom, boom, boom
Yo, I got that hit of comic art
You can get that face in pencil
I got stats rock 'n' roll, character flow
That Billigan whip, next level visual hit
My Adam (boom, boom, boom)
How the beat bang? (Boom boom boom)
I like that boom boom pow
Them X-Mens jackin' my style
They try to copy Pollina
He’s on the pen tip now
Love you 3000, no hate
You so ninety five and great
I got that boom, boom, boom
That future boom, boom, boom
Let me get it now

I completely agree on the freshness of Pollina's style back then.
(for me it was his rendition of the Blob ;)
Cool find

You know how much I love the designs. Super cool to see this early piece from Pollina leading into his run.

Not sure if I've ever seen raw Pollina pencils before. Love the headshot at the top, but the whole thing is really beautiful.

Well said! Suffice to say, this is right up my alley. So nuanced and eloquently crafted. Every pencil line has weight. It’s hard to look away. Congrats!

That is a fun piece of Pollina history. This was definitely a breath of fresh air and he had some really great characters to play with. He also really revived BOOM BOOM and kept this lower tier character up front and ready for action. Great find, huge congrats!

Beautiful piece by an amazing artist. Pollina did spectacular work on X-Force, and I'd love to see him do more mutant books one day.

This may very well be the most impressive piece in your collection, love it! One of the coolest design sketches I have seen.
