Description

A hand-drawn Ralph McQuarrie sketch for Star Wars: Jabba's Palace Pop-up Book. Published in 1996, the Jabba's Palace pop-up book was a book released as part of a pair of children-oriented books. The book recalled memorable scenes and characters from the films, but also featured new artwork by McQuarrie.

McQuarrie is widely considered one of the seminal Star Wars artists, having designed the look of Darth Vader, C-3PO, R2-D2, and countless other elements of the original film. McQuarrie was one of Lucas's first collaborators on Star Wars and created numerous concept sketches and production paintings that were used to convey Lucas's vision to those working on the film, and later used to market it. McQuarrie's paintings were published in portfolios that are well known to Star Wars collectors. He went on to work on all three films in the original trilogy and later did additional work for Lucasfilm in the 1990s, on The Illustrated Star Wars Universe project, and two Star Wars Pop-Up Books.

Original artwork by McQuarrie is exceedingly rare and sought after by collectors. The sketch shows minimal signs of wear and remains in excellent condition.
