Description
I have been notified that I have a love for the Guardians of the Galaxy that can't quit. Well for all those who wanted to test the breadth of my inspiration, I give you not one, not two, but three new characters in my collection. When it comes to DC, I draw the most inspiration from the Golden, Silver, and Bronze age years. However, I am still not the best versed in the material. This piece may not be from the early days, but it is a stylistic representation of a bygone era. Mike Machlan did an amazing job with this piece, and I absolutely love it.

I picked this piece up for my love of the imagery. Although, as I stated, I am not well versed in DC comics. I know that there are pencils and inks on this piece. I am assuming that Mike did all of the artwork for this piece as the lettering of the A and C are the same with MAC and JACK. However, I am unsure if this piece was a recreation, or a reimagining as it was not listed when purchased. I figured I would ask the community if they had ever seen this image done before by Jack Kirby, or if this was just done with Mike's understanding of Jack's style? Having viewed some of Mike's other work, I could tell he was well versed in Jack Kirby's artwork throughout the years. Additionally, he was well versed in comics as a whole. Thus, my reason for becoming such a fan of his artwork.

One of my faves from the larger size pieces.  Almost jumped at this one myself.  Glad it found a loving home.  Great pickup bud.  And yeah, I can really see the Kirby in the Supe torso.

These 14x17's are really nice in person. As my only Superman, Green Lantern, and Flash piece it will be well loved. I have a few other Batman pieces, but none in this style, which I love.

Thanks Nick. I am putting quite some though into it possibly being the next framed piece for the house. I am really loving this one.

A beautiful, Kirby inspired DC piece and a wonderful start to your DC art collection! All of the Machlan pieces thst Jim Warden recently offered were really nicely done and affordable as hell! I was sad to hear that Machlan had passed away earlier this year and without any mention in the industry press that I'm aware of. He had a nice career and did some great inking, including over great pencillers such as Byrne and Gammill.

I also researched some of his pencils as well as he was credited for a few issues in his career that looked really good. Jim was amazing to purchase from and this is one of five that I picked up so far. Mike's widow has been selling these from what I am told, so I have been making sure to send a little extra to help out. The pieces have been amazing and Mike was quite a talented artist.

Something I had always wanted in my collection. I have a few damaged very early Golden Age Superman comics and thus always had a love for him. I just never found the piece that sang to me. This one does.

Know it sounds Kirby
But it's Justice League Machlan
Girl, I'm leaving Groot tomorrow
Seems to me, girl
You know I'm done Guardians
You see, art bid, sold, and I borrowed, yeah, ooh

That's why it's DC
It's DC Mike Machlan drawing
That's why it's DC
It's DC like Kirby drawing

Why in the world would anybody fight Justice League, yeah?
I've seen none of their comics
Everybody wants me to read
What they want League DC
I'm not happy when I try their comics, no, ooh

That's why they're DC (yeah)
I'm easy in Marvel reading, yeah
That's why it's DC
It's DC Mike Machlan drawing

GREAT page!

I've never seen a Kirby that was like this, so I think it is a Machlan idea all the way.

Thanks Scott. Always difficult to tell, but unless proven otherwise, I tend to agree.

Definitely dig the throwback vibe, expecially with the Supes rendition, and them's some stark inks!  Dipping into DC...I can dig it :)  Congrats!

Back in 2016/2017 I was only reading DC Rebirth. I would say my comic collection is 25-30% DC. Thus, I have a large fondness for DC as well. However, no where near as big as my love of Marvel and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Pieces like this; however, turn my head and keep me on my toes.

Really love the classic feel of this one.  And having Superman front and center says "HELL YEAH!" to me.  A wonderful foray into the World of DC by a super talented artist, congrats!

Thanks Paul. I always wanted a Superman piece and I felt the Hell Yeah inside when I saw this.

Machlan seems to have produced this piece as an homage to the splash page of "Tales of Suspense" #60 by Jack Kirby & Chic Stone.

Wow!!! Mike for the win! Thank you soooo much. That is totally an homage to that piece. I am going to post that image up with it.
