DescriptionI have been wanting a nice Punisher cover example by Declan Shalvey for a while. This one fits the bill perfectly. Gritty, beautiful imagery of Punisher prominently featured and doing his thing. Getting back to his roots as a sniper just like he was originally introduced to the world back on the cover of ASM #129. A lot of great cover images of Punisher as a sniper over the years and this is one of them.No lights in this night scene except for the stars. That’s because it’s from a story titled “Lights Out.” From Marvel.com: “LIGHTS OUT! A blackout hits New York City…but this is no ordinary blackout. Character is what you are in the dark! Fantastic image. It's interesting to see how the colors chosen really affect the piece. From the uncolored art I could imagine this as a day time piece (blue sky/orange sky..etc..) just as easily.

The cityscape in shadow is really cool as we only get a hint of the textures from the foreground bricks. His pose with the leg up to steady his LRSR shows a methodical preciseness that Frank uses for the kill and Shalvey used to execute this cover. The symbol of the Punisher looms large on this cover letting us know Frank Castle is still up to his punishing ways!

"Lights out" ...a few applications here :) Like the pure contrast os the skull spatter night vs Frank and the building he's atop. Shalvey killed (pun!) the designs on these Punisher covers and this is no exception. Congrats!
