BATOBER: SILHOUETTE – SCOTT CHANTLER
For a prompt like “Silhouette”, it would be easy to fall back on silhouetting Batman against a Gotham background or descending on some n’er-do-well in the midst of a crime. Heck, I’d wager good money those types of silhouettes have been used thousands of times throughout his 80+ year history.

Instead, Scott takes a little different approach here, and it’s the beat cop’s eyebrow raise that made me want this one, as it leaves the image open to so much interpretation.

Is he simply noticing Batman has made his way into a room he previously thought contained only Gordon? Or did he hear something? And, if so, is his interest piqued for innocent or nefarious reasons? Regardless of the why, it’s a phenomenal reminder of how a simple line can be so effective in the hands of a master cartoonist.

Amazing art from an interesting perspective. The guard definitely noticed and now he is mulling over whether to take a peek.
