Description

I was excited to see Scott return to Batober after taking a break last year to do Supetember instead (a month of Superman drawings each day in September).

I started reading comics in 1992 thanks to the confluence of a mass media trifecta; Batman Returns, the Flash TV show and Batman: The Animated Series, the latter of which graced my screen every afternoon when I got home from school.

As a result, the Animated Series acquainted me with much of Batman’s rogues’ gallery, including Mr. Freeze. His introduction in the Heart of Ice episode left a memorable impression on thirteen-year-old me, not to mention countless other boys and boys at heart.

Given that background, Scott’s touching rendition here was a must have for me. His use of shadow is brilliant, of course, but I also love how the little lines of his forehead, eyebrows and mouth remind us all how the best cartoonist’s use simplicity to convey so much emotion.

A very popular subject every Batober for some of the most heart wrenching scenes in the BTAS run that embodies so many emotions and feelings. Perfectly executed when you can empathize with Mr. Freeze.

The Batman Animated universe's Mr. Freeze is my favorite version of the character.
