DescriptionIt's been a Great week for Comic Art! Growing up, reading comics, George Perez was one of my favorite artists! I was at the right age to be buying the Avengers when he started on the book in the mid 70's. From the start I was hooked on his art! I would buy any book he drew, that I could get my hands on for the next few decades. I followed him to DC Comics in 1980 when he started on JLA and The New Teen Titans. When I started buying original art in the late 90's Perez art was my first published piece I bought, and I looked for more. I found out in a hurry that there was steep competition for his art, as a lot had been scooped up already at that point into collections. Avengers and Titans art were always the most sought after, for obvious reasons. I owned some beautiful Perez pieces over the years, and as my life and career took twists and turns, I found myself letting go of some pieces I wish I had kept but being out of work a few times led to something having to give. The most desirable pieces from my collection were always the most in demand from my fellow collectors when I needed to sell. The New Teen Titans Baxter Edition #1 was one of my All-Time Favorite comic books! Perez and Marv Wolfman were hitting on all cylinders by the time this book came out. The characters were well developed, and George had recently started inking some of his own books. This book, cover to cover, was Beautiful with George's hyper detailed inks! A lot of the pages from this book were secured in a collection and as Perez prices continued to rise, getting a page from this Grail Book was seeming to be unattainable. Imagine my surprise to see a page come up for sale recently. The asking price wasn't doable for me but perhaps some of my prized pieces from my collection might pique the owner's interest. I opened the conversation with a cornerstone of my collection as an offer and after some back and forth on a few pieces we were able to agree on a deal. Not only did I have some sleepless nights until this piece arrived, but shipping my pieces across the country kept me on edge also until they arrived. As I replenish my collection with pieces from some of my favorite artists that I had relinquished over the years of my roller coaster life, this piece really fit the void! I'm still actively looking for high quality Perez pieces if you have any available! Thank you, Michael for a Great transaction, I treasure this piece more than I can convey! Social/Sharing |

Pretty key issue with Perez pencil and inks! His swan song for the Titans to wrap up the Trigon storyarc that the team was put together to stop by Raven all the way back to their origins! The baxer paper showed off the Perez art in the best possible light at the time.

Such a great page from a memorable first issue. Perez really levelled his art up on that series.

Great art from one of less than a handful of issue in which Pérez inked himself. Congrats on a fantastic acquisition, Rich!

A true historic page. I have had the comic shop poster for this issue hanging in my home for 40 years! I hope you have this someplace where you can see this every day.

Congratulations on the page. I think the first 6 issues of the Baxter edition are up to par with the first Titans collection.

For me it's comic art of the highest level. Perez' inks are just out of this world. Congrats for this breathtaking piece of comics history and thanks for sharing.

Thanks Alex! George's art definitely shined the brightest when he added his own highly detailed inks to his pencils! The detail in person is Incredible!
