DescriptionPart 3 of my Weapon X Tryptic from Dave StokesThis was a gift from my partner. He got me a beautiful three-piece Weapon X commission from Dave a few years ago. Dave’s work is really beautiful, I believe he is a fill in artist for Marvel at times and can really adapt to many different styles. I haven’t seen a lot of his work but the pieces I have seen are really well done and hope to see more. His style for me crosses into the Phil Jimenez, Chris Samnee and a bit of BWS (but that may just be the subject matter speaking). The details and emotion on Wolverine are fantastic, dynamic posing, but it’s the environment work that really draws me in. I love his use of negative space for the tree and ground details. It works perfectly silhouetted against Wolverine. Gives a really great touch for the cold snowy night. I also really like the use of red to highlight the blood spilled and the anguish of what the character has done, crimes repaid for the crimes committed against. There is also a really great use of layering in space, with a diagonal line pulling you back into the scene, the helmet in lower FG right, then Wolverine center mid ground and the silhouetted tree behind him a bit to the left and to the right forming a bit of a triangle for your eye to bounce between it all. I hope to see more of his work and see what styles come forth as he develops more and more into his own. Social/Sharing |

Weapon X is truly Wolvie at his most feral. Love this. Congrats!

Great howl at the moon scene depicted by Stokes! It lets out a lot of emotions!

Super well done! I'm always torn if I want Weapon X with the helmet on or off because I dig the animalistic ferocity of Logan and it's not the easiest to pull off with the eyes covered. You got the best of both worlds here though!

Great gift! Screaming out after just escaping, and the red really pops. Also like the details and tones on Wolvie vs the negative space tree background - provides a nice contrast. Congrats!

Fabulous Weapon X illustration from Dave Stokes. Love Stokes' take on the feral Wolverine. The contrast between the silhouetted trees in the background and the gorgeous ink washes on Logan really make this piece stand out.
