Description

Alex Raymond died tragically in September of 1956 and the art chores were picked up by the very capable assistant John Prentice. Alex was always a few weeks of his publishing schedule with the art so he could take times off. So, although this daily was published about 2 months after his death, it is not signed and leads me to believe that John might have worked over Raymonds art/pencils/layouts in this early period.

It still has those fine touches on every panel. The eyelashes and eyebrows in the centerpiece image are quite striking.

Prentice was an EXCELLENT artist in his own right, so whoever had a hand in this one, is fantastic either way.

Raymond was ahead of schedule, but I beleive when he did that he had fully completed strips - fully inked. That's why there are so many dailies published after he died. I doubt he penciled this. But Prentice did some really great work in the first few years after taking over. Sometimes he aped Raymond so well, it's hard to tell that it's not Raymond. Beautiful example!

WOW...that's a really great daily! Margo is stunning in that middle panel! Raymond, Prentice or both, this is definitely a head-turner!

Beautiful daily! Prentice's inks are superb, and the drawing is rock solid whether it was Prentice or Raymond who penciled it.
