DescriptionAfter arranging my Alex Shibao Cap commission, another artist in the Chiaroscuro Studios stable caught my eye. Rafael Pimentel. There was only one problem. With both dynamite color and black and white work being offered, I wasn’t sure which to choose? A good dilemma, to be sure. Ultimately, even though I have a few color pieces in my Cap collection, I’m a black and white guy at heart. So, I ended up going that route largely on the strength of an amazing DKR black and white commission sample I saw here on CAF. With choice of scene up to Rafael, he came back with roughs of two different scenes as options. Both were great, but I ultimately went with this one because I liked the way Cap and BP were framed by the negative space. I’d like to once again mention how great Nicholas at Chiaroscuro Studios was to work with. When he sent me a photo of the completed commission, the Outriders and Cap were lighter in tone than what I’d envisioned from the rough. When I asked if Rafael would mind darkening those areas a bit, he worked it all out with no drama. And, of course, my sincere thanks to Rafael for putting so much into this one, both in terms of time and the number of characters. I never expected so many Outriders based on the rough, but they really add to the sense of chaos from that moment in the films. ASK THE ARTIST: Why this scene? I asked Rafael and he said it was mainly the idea of being selfless, jumping ahead even though it’s riskier. What a wonderful description of leadership, which is something both Cap and T’Challa have in spades. Rafael also had a great reason for his other scene option, and I hope I can take him up on that one too someday soon. Social/Sharing |

Great storypoint that gets lost in Infinity War as Black Panther and Cap are the spearhead to counter the outriders invading Wakanda!
