DescriptionJack Sparling / Star Spangled War Stories #173 Unknown Soldier Story "No Holds Barred!" ( DC, 1973). The Unknown Soldier goes undercover as a famed Nazi wrestler, just before his big match with a Japanese Sumo star; in reality, this is all reconnaissance work to aid in Australia's fight against Imperial Japan. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an average image area of 10" x 15". Production tape, production marks/notes, paste-up corrections to art, whiteout, toning, and handling wear. That is a great trio in the credits! This is very good storytelling with a realism in the art that's not in the main superhero stories. The drawn title is very unique and grabs your attention to read the small print in the quarter circle.
