Description

Here it is, my first new art of 2024!

Last year, about a month before the Baltimore Comic-Con, I reached out to Joseph Melchior about a potential commission from Mark Buckingham. I'm a big fan of Mark's work as an inker and penciller. I also love Miracleman and I did not have any commissions featuring the character.

Joseph replied to my message and told me that while Mark would try to have my piece ready for Baltimore, he could not make any guarantees due to Mark's work schedule on Fables and Miracleman: The Silver Age. Because I know how good Mark is, I was willing to wait. I specifically asked Mark to draw the fight between Miracleman and his former kid sidekick, Johnny Bates, from the second issue of the series. Mark told me that he saw his work as a tribute to the great work of the late Garry Leach. I stayed in touch with Mark through Facebook and got immediate replies when I reached out to him.

Mark finished the piece a few weeks ago and gave it to Joseph who brought it to OAX. My friend Larry Tun was kind enough to pick up the piece at OAX for me.

When the piece was completed, Mark wrote me that "the final piece is the best commission I think I have ever done and I was sad to let it go. I wished I could have kept it for myself but I knew it was going to a good home!" I'm very happy to add this piece to my collection.

Great ask for a commission, and final result.

Thank you, Paul!  I was very lucky that Mark put so much effort into the art.

So dark!  Issue two was such a shocker to discover Kid Miracleman never changed back and lived his life hiding his powers and being evil.  Buckingham makes us relive that moment with this image.  Kimota!

Issue two of Miracleman might be one of the darkest comics I have read and that's saying something.  Mark did a great job of recreating the sense of doom that pervades that issue.  Thanks for the comment, Marcus!

What a great idea for a commission! Moore and Leach did such a magnificent job of resurrecting MM. This storyline was chilling.

Thank you, Tom!  The idea for the commission was mine, but Mark really took my idea and ran with it.

Thank you, Bill, for the kind comment!  I really benefited from Mark taking this piece home and putting all of that detail into my commission.  I'm so glad you like it.  Your collection is just amazing.

Ooh, takes me back to that brutal issue.  Buckingham absolutely does the battle service with this dynamic faceoff image!  And so many intricate inks throughout.  Big congrats!

Thank you, my friend!  Mark really did a superb job with varying the ink weights throughout the piece, reminding us again what an indelible inker he really is.
