Description"Take it outside first!"When the Identity Crisis storyline was happening in the Spider books, I was neck-deep in the X-Men universe, but teenage me loved Mike Wieringo's covers for the two tie-in issues of Sensational Spider-Man that featured the Hornet (funny that I didn't pay as much attention to his art until almost 10 years later with FF). I picked up those two issues, and I think those were the only issues of Spider-Man I had for years. In my early art collecting days, I had chances to pick up some pages from those two issues but passed/missed out for various reasons (many of them silly). And very few pages have shown up since then, so art from those issues has been on my wishlist for some time. Fast forward to OAX, and by sheer happenstance, I happened to flip through Michael Lovitz's portfolios of art for sale, not expecting to find anything. And then I saw four pages from Sensational Spider-Man #27 (the first issue with the Hornet). I knew I had to get at least one of these... and ended up buying three of them. It's been a while since I picked up any art from Mike, and it feels so nice to add some to the collection again. Here we have the page where Spidey starts to try out the jetpack that would be the basis for the Hornet suit. It's also the first Ringo Spidey image I've had in my collection in years, so it's nice to have that represented again. Thanks, Michael! Social/Sharing |

Love seeing Wieringo's inked Spidey work from the time! That last circle head shot panel caps this one off nicely. Congrats on this and the batch!

Not one but three Spider-Man pages? Can't blame you. Wieringo's art is fantastic, very sharp and clean Love this page with Spidey trying on the jetpack for the first time. Love that final circular panel where Spidey has on the headset and looks straight at us. I can only imagine he's winking. Fabulous pick-up, congrats!
